Drones struck an industrial zone in the Moscow region town of Chekhov overnight on August 4, hitting a Wildberries warehouse and killing five people, according to Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov. Ten others were injured, making it the first attack on the capital region with such a death toll since the start of the war, the outlet Agentstvo reported.
The falling drones sparked several fires in Novoselki, the largest at the marketplace's warehouse. In the village of Solnyshkovo, drone debris damaged a private home and a car, Vorobyov wrote.
A Wildberries warehouse also caught fire in the settlement of Krasny Bor in the Leningrad region, where Governor Alexander Drozdenko confirmed one person was injured. The strike targeted warehouses of the merged Wildberries and Russ company, he said.
In the Tver region, drone debris partially destroyed a wall of a Wildberries warehouse in the settlement of Emmauss, Governor Vitaly Korolev said. No one was injured, staff were evacuated, and the warehouse suspended operations.
Sources differ on the toll: Agentstvo called the attack on the Moscow region the deadliest of the war, reporting five dead, while The Insider wrote of at least five dead and ten injured. Vorobyov initially reported five dead, then updated the figure to ten injured without mentioning new fatalities. The Insider also noted that the Ukrainian side has not officially commented on the attack, although Kyiv has previously explained strikes on Wildberries warehouses by their alleged role in supplying the Russian army.
