David Z., 16, died during a missile attack on an Ozon warehouse in Belgorod, according to relatives cited by the outlet Ostorozhno, Novosti. The teenager had taken a summer job at the warehouse during school holidays.
David attended the ninth grade at a special school because he could neither hear nor speak. He also played basketball at the Center for Adaptive Sports. Two of his classmates were working at the warehouse with him and were hospitalized after the attack, the outlet reported.
David was the eldest of nine children in his family. Relatives said local authorities have not yet contacted the family. His parents have already spent 90,000 rubles on the funeral and have launched a fundraising appeal.
“That day he didn’t go to work in delivery. He went to the warehouse. And this grief happened to us,” relatives said. They noted that they attended the identification, but the body was not shown at the morgue, and they were advised to contact funeral services themselves.
Online retailer Ozon said over the weekend that drones had attacked two more of its warehouse complexes — in Rostov-on-Don and Belgorod.
