A fire broke out at the KuibyshevAzot chemical plant in Tolyatti, in Russia's Samara region, after a drone attack, with witnesses filming a large blaze and black smoke over the industrial zone, according to Astra and the Ukrainian OSINT project Exilenova+. Samara region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said a "industrial enterprise" had been hit, without giving further details, and reported one injured person.
Tolyatti Mayor Ilya Sukhikh said there were no deaths, one person was hospitalized, windows were blown out in several apartment buildings in one district, and residents were moved to a temporary accommodation center. According to the governor, drones damaged several residential buildings.
In Taganrog, in the Rostov region, the Taganrog Automobile Plant site and the Taganrog-Central military airfield were hit. A fuel reservoir caught fire on the TagAZ grounds, Exilenova+ wrote. NASA's FIRMS satellite system recorded at least two fire hotspots there. Astra, citing footage from witnesses showing thick smoke over the city, concluded that the airfield was likely another target, and local residents also reported a fire there.
The Taganrog-Central airfield, located within the city limits, is home to the 708th Military Transport Aviation Regiment. The 325th Aviation Repair Plant is nearby. According to Exilenova+, a military town in Taganrog was also attacked.
Taganrog Mayor Svetlana Kambulova confirmed the attack on the city: air defense forces destroyed drones over the city, there were fire hotspots, and no one was hurt. Rostov region Governor Yuri Slyusar said more than 70 drones were destroyed over Taganrog and the Taganrog Bay overnight, and reported a fire at a store building and several non-residential structures.
The Taganrog Automobile Plant has not produced vehicles since 2014, when the enterprise was declared bankrupt. Its territory is now occupied by Atlant Aero LLC. As Ukraine's General Staff previously reported, the company provides a full cycle of design, production and testing of Molniya strike and reconnaissance drones and produces components for Orion UAVs. According to Russia's Unified State Register of Legal Entities, it was registered in Taganrog in 2023 and specializes in aircraft manufacturing, and its revenue for 2025 approached 10 billion rubles, as Kommersant wrote. In April 2026, the European Union added Atlant Aero to its sanctions list of drone developers.
KuibyshevAzot produces caprolactam, ammonium nitrate, urea, ammonium sulfate, ammonia, weak nitric acid, polyamide-6 and high-strength technical thread. The last two products are made in Russia only by this plant.
Russia's Defense Ministry reported destroying 230 drones over Russian regions. Russian authorities did not name any of the attacked facilities.
A day earlier, on September 11, Ukrainian drones attacked the Azot chemical plant of the Uralkhim company in Berezniki, Perm region. The strike site was geolocated by Exilenova+ and Astra. As The Insider wrote, after analyzing rail shipments, at the turn of 2025 and 2026 nitric acid for Russia's military industry was supplied almost exclusively by the Berezniki Azot plant and Eurochem in Novomoskovsk, Tula region, and without it the production of gunpowder and high explosives is impossible. Perm region Governor Dmitry Makhonin then reported a raid on two industrial facilities and 36 downed drones, but did not name the affected enterprises.
