The sanctions list includes Supreme Court judge Vyacheslav Kirillov, who issued the ruling barring the party from the elections, and judicial panel members Igor Zinchenko and Denis Tyutin, who upheld it. Also listed are Sergei Sakharov, head of the Central Election Commission's legal department, who represented the commission at the hearing, and Ilya Rusakov, a staff member of the Prosecutor General's Office who argued for the prosecution.

Pskov City Court judge Viktoria Malyamova, who sentenced Yabloko deputy chairman Lev Shlosberg to 11 years in prison, was also sanctioned. She is joined on the list by state prosecutor Anna Goryacheva, who sought the harsh sentence for Shlosberg, judges Elina Babayants and Elizaveta Truskalenko, and assistant prosecutor Yulia Guznyaeva. They took part in the trials of other party leaders, Maxim Kruglov and Nikolai Rybakov.

Under the EU's implementation regulation, the individuals are deemed responsible for supporting repression against the democratic opposition and for a serious undermining of democracy and the rule of law in Russia. The measures include asset freezes in EU countries and a ban on entry.

According to the sources, the Russian Supreme Court annulled the registration of Yabloko's party list on 10 August ahead of the September State Duma elections. The suit was filed by the Rodina party, which accused its rivals, among other things, of distributing campaign material on social media without paying through an election fund, of copyright violations and of extremism.

Pskov politician and Yabloko deputy chairman Lev Shlosberg was sentenced to 11 years in prison in a combined case over repeated "discrediting" of the army and the spread of "fakes" about it.

Yabloko is the only party in Russia that openly advocates ending the war in Ukraine and opposes political repression.

At the same time, the EU imposed sanctions on the head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, and nine other individuals for facilitating the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia and their forced assimilation, including ideological indoctrination and militarized education. The sanctions also target 17 organizations, among them children's camps and sports centers in Russia and in the occupied territories of Ukraine, the Moscow tourism committee and the North Korean camp Songdowon.
