Grigory Zaslavsky has been dismissed as rector of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS), the university's press service said. He resigned voluntarily, and chief accountant Olga Ermakova has been appointed acting rector.
The Interior Ministry is conducting a check into Zaslavsky over several episodes, Vedomosti reported, citing a source close to the ministry. The check concerns possible abuse of office and unjustified salary accruals. No criminal case has been opened yet.
Earlier, media reported other complaints against Zaslavsky. REN TV reported on an undeclared villa owned by his wife in Montenegro, and the 112 channel claimed the theatre scholar may have hired relatives at GITIS.
Zaslavsky had served as GITIS rector since 2016. In February 2022, he signed a statement supporting Russia's actions in Ukraine along with heads of other universities and NGOs.
