The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has lifted restrictions on Russian and Belarusian racing drivers, allowing them to compete with their national flag and anthem. The decision was made on August 3 by the FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC), according to the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF).

The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has taken a similar step. Its Presidium has abolished the status of individual neutral athletes and the associated verification procedures. The decision takes effect immediately.

The FIA's decision applies to all its competitions, including Formula 1, but the ban on holding international events in Russia and Belarus remains in place, the federation clarified.

Boris Rotenberg, who has headed the RAF since 2024 and is the younger brother of Arkady Rotenberg, called the decision the result of "enormous diplomatic work" and said Russian drivers "will again be able to reach heights under the proudly raised Russian tricolor."

Other international federations have also recently allowed Russian athletes to compete. In July, boxers, gymnasts, and table tennis players were permitted to compete with flag and anthem; in June, fencers and weightlifters were allowed. Track and field athletes, however, remain barred from international competition. The International Olympic Committee has temporarily reinstated the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee, which was suspended in 2023.
