Moscow City Court on [date] rejected an appeal by Alexei Gorynov against prosecutors' refusal to reopen his criminal case. During the hearing, held by video link from penal colony IK-10 in the Altai region, the convicted former municipal deputy complained of feeling unwell, Sotavision reported.

Gorynov said he was suffering from nausea and dizziness and suggested the symptoms could indicate poisoning. He claimed the colony administration was not registering his requests for medical assistance and asked the court to help him obtain it. The court refused.

The appeal stemmed from a ruling by the Tagansky District Court in Moscow, which upheld prosecutors' decision not to resume proceedings in Gorynov's case. His defense argues that the basis for a review should be the findings of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which identified 11 violations in the case and declared his detention arbitrary on three grounds.

Lawyer Yekaterina Tertukhina said prosecutors had in effect failed to examine the defense's arguments or assess the UN conclusions. Gorynov himself noted that he had petitioned prosecutors two years ago and received no response. He also asked why he — "merely for speaking out in favor of ending the war" — had been sentenced to seven years, and, with a second conviction added, effectively to ten.

Gorynov, 65, was among the first Russians convicted under the law on "military fakes." In 2022, he was sentenced to seven years in a penal colony for comments about the war in Ukraine made at a meeting of the Krasnoselsky District council of deputies in Moscow. He later received an additional sentence on charges of "justifying terrorism" over conversations with fellow inmates.

Gorynov has a chronic lung condition: part of his lung was removed after he contracted tuberculosis. While in custody, he has suffered pneumonia and bronchitis, and in 2025 his lawyer reported that new tuberculosis lesions had been found. During the winter, the political prisoner was held in an unheated cell-type room, after which he again fell ill with bronchitis.
