A grenade exploded during an anti-terrorism training exercise at School No. 21 in the village of Serkovo in the Shchyolkovo urban district outside Moscow, injuring four teachers.
According to the Telegram channel Baza, a training grenade was thrown through a window during the drill and hit a wooden beam. Mash reported that a training flash-bang grenade was used, which detonated on a table in the teachers' lounge where staff were seated.
According to the Telegram channel "112," one teacher was diagnosed with a blast injury to both eyes, and two others sustained closed head injuries. A fourth teacher received medical attention on site. The regional health ministry said the injured were taken to a hospital but later released for outpatient treatment, with one refusing hospitalization.
The Moscow regional prosecutor's office confirmed the explosion and launched an inspection. Emergency services are working at the scene to establish the circumstances.
Two-day anti-terrorism drills began today at kindergartens and schools across Russia. First Deputy Education Minister Alexander Bugaev previously said participants would practice a comprehensive response scenario involving hostage-taking, attacks with flammable liquids, and drone strikes. Novaya Gazeta Europe found more than a thousand reports on social media pages of children's institutions about drills already held, during which weapons were pointed at children and they were forced to lie on the floor.
