The 58-year-old Chernyshov was injured near the village of Skvortsovo in Simferopol district and died in hospital, the People's Front, a Russian pro-government movement, reported on September 5.
The organization said Chernyshov died 'as a result of an air attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.' Ukraine's General Staff did not comment on the attack. The editorial team of Krym.Realities, a Ukrainian outlet, said it could not independently verify the information amid hostilities.
The fund also reported that Chernyshov was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage, but there is no official confirmation of this.
Chernyshov had led the fund since October 13, 2025. The organization, registered in Moscow in 2014, is used by the People's Front to collect funds and deliver aid to the Russian army. After Russia's annexation of Crimea, the region's Moscow-appointed head, Sergei Aksyonov, took over the fund's local branch.
