Russia’s Justice Ministry has launched an online exhibition titled “Protection of the Sovereignty of the Russian State. History and Modernity,” according to reports by Meduza, Novaya Gazeta Europe, and 7×7.
The exhibition is divided into seven historical periods, from the Time of Troubles to the present day. An eighth and final section consists entirely of individuals and organizations that the ministry has added to its register of “foreign agents.” Each entry has a separate card with a photograph and a description of the person’s or group’s “harmful” activities, sorted by category — from human rights to medicine. Some cards also include quotations.
The project’s description states that Russia “for centuries has continuously faced attempts to violate its sovereignty.” These attempts, according to the authors, “were disguised as selfless help, but pursued the same goals — to seize territory or resources, to bring a pliable ruler to power, or to provoke internal conflicts.”
A similar offline exhibition was held on Gogolevsky Boulevard in Moscow in the summer of 2025, prepared by the Justice Ministry and the Russian Military Historical Society. Following Moscow, “Protection of Sovereignty” exhibitions were held in the Tula and Chelyabinsk regions, as well as in the Perm and Stavropol territories.
