The Basmanny District Court of Moscow handed Naki five years in a colony on charges of inciting activity against Russia's security (Part 2, Article 280.4, paragraph "v" of the Criminal Code), Mediazona and Current Time reported. Combined with his previous sentence, he was given 14 years in a general-security colony.
The court also barred Naki from administering websites for five years. Prosecutors had requested 14 years in total, but in a strict-security colony.
According to investigators, the new case was prompted by a video Naki posted on May 7, 2024. They said it contained signs of incitement to overthrow the authorities in Russia, including through the physical elimination of Putin, and a negative attitude toward the use of the Russian army.
The prosecutor did not specify in court which video was meant. That day, a video titled "Now Putin can be liquidated. The day Putin stopped being president" was published on Naki's YouTube channel.
The lawyer appointed to Naki asked for an acquittal.
Naki's previous sentence, under the article on military "fakes," was handed down in absentia in 2023: 11 years in a colony. That case stemmed from a stream on the YouTube channel "Popular Politics," where Naki and Ruslan Leviev, founder of the Conflict Intelligence Team project, discussed the results of the ninth day of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. Leviev was given the same 11 years at the time.
Naki has been under arrest in absentia since May 2022.
