The Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring) added Alexander Nevzorov to its list of "extremists and terrorists", according to an update to the agency's registry reported by REN TV, TV Rain and Novaya Gazeta Europe.
Inclusion on the list blocks the individual's bank accounts and restricts the right to dispose of real estate.
According to Novaya Gazeta Europe, a court in St. Petersburg ordered Nevzorov arrested in absentia in August. He faces charges of financing "extremism" and of failing to comply with the obligations of a "foreign agent". The case centers on donations that the writer and his wife, Lidiya, collected from themselves.
A year earlier, in July 2024, a court in St. Petersburg designated the Nevzorovs an "extremist association". Property was seized from the couple and from the writer's mother-in-law.
Earlier, in February 2023, a Moscow court sentenced Nevzorov in absentia to eight years in prison under the article on the so-called "fakes about the army". The Justice Ministry added him to its "foreign agents" registry in April 2022.
Nevzorov opposes Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and sharply criticizes the Russian authorities. He left Russia in March 2022.
