Ozon is increasing the daily insurance rate for sellers' goods by 3.3 times — from 0.0035% to 0.0115% of the value of goods transferred per day, according to a press release for sellers that was noted by Novaya Gazeta Europe. For a seller with 1 million rubles worth of stock, the monthly payment will rise from 1,050 to 3,450 rubles.
The new rate takes effect July 28 for those purchasing insurance for the first time. Sellers with existing policies will keep the old rate until August 26; the new rate applies from August 27.
Ozon attributed the increase to growing risks associated with drone attacks. The company noted that many insurers have stopped covering such incidents altogether. The insurer is Ingosstrakh.
Insurance terms remain unchanged. Sellers can receive compensation for goods damaged or destroyed in a drone attack only if the incident is classified as an act of sabotage or terrorism. Earlier, Ozon also amended its offer agreement, adding a force majeure clause covering military actions, missile attacks, air defense operations, and the impact of aircraft.
Notably, on July 2 Ozon had halved the insurance rate — from 0.007% to 0.0035% per day. The new rate is 64% higher than the original tariff in effect before July.
The rate hike follows a series of Ukrainian drone strikes on Wildberries logistics centers. On the night of July 18, drones attacked Wildberries warehouses in Kotovsk, Tambov Region, and Elektrostal, Moscow Region. On the night of July 22, strikes hit warehouses in Krasnodar and Nevinnomyssk, Stavropol Region.
