Polish military personnel pulled the unmanned aerial vehicle from the water, and a preliminary inspection points to its Russian origin, Kosiniak-Kamysz said. Emergency services are working at the site.
The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said its systems had recorded no violations of the country's airspace since July 31. Command spokesman Jacek Goryszewski said the incident cannot at present be linked to any attack from Russia. When and under what circumstances the drone reached the Polish coast was not specified.
The reports of the find came a day after a Russian drone attack in western Ukraine. According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, Polish systems recorded an attack by about fifteen Geran-5 jet-powered drones. One of them struck a kilometer from the Polish border, another five kilometers away. Polish airspace was covered by F-16 fighter jets, helicopters and a SAAB airborne reconnaissance aircraft.
The targets of the strikes were a passenger train on the Kyiv–Warsaw line and a gas station near the Yahodyn border crossing. According to Suspilne, two people were injured in the strike on the filling station; no one was hurt on the train. Another train carrying European politicians and diplomats was near the first one. Ukrzaliznytsia suggested that this train was the target of the attack.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk convened an emergency meeting of the government's security center after the attacks. He said escalation by Russia is becoming a fact and its examples are moving ever closer to the Polish border. According to him, in the coming weeks and months Russia will try to step up its actions in Ukraine, and it cannot be ruled out that the escalation will also affect Polish territory.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that establishing a no-fly zone over western Ukraine would help protect Poland from Russian drones and cruise missiles violating its borders.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also noted that the Russian army is changing its attack tactics, increasingly using jet-powered drones, which it launches several at a time.
