An unnamed US official described the talks as "constructive." The White House confirmed the meeting to RIA Novosti and to Reuters.
According to Reuters, Dmitriev met with representatives of the US Treasury Department and the US Energy Department. The discussions covered ending the war in Ukraine and possible American-Russian energy projects that could be carried out after it ends.
A White House statement to RIA Novosti said Dmitriev was in Washington to continue "constructive discussions on a peaceful settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and possible joint initiatives in the energy sector after the war ends."
The trip to the United States followed a meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky in New York, where, according to Zelensky, a possible energy truce was discussed.
Dmitriev's visit and the Trump-Zelensky meeting were preceded by a trip to Moscow by US presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Following that trip, they said Russia was ready to resume talks on peace in Ukraine after elections to the State Duma.
It was previously reported that Trump agreed to ease sanctions against Russia in exchange for the release of Russian political prisoners. The proposal was put forward by US presidential special representative John Coale.
