Russia's financial monitoring service (Rosfinmonitoring) has added journalist Ksenia Larina (real name Oksana Barsheva) to its list of 'terrorists and extremists', according to the agency's website. Larina has also been placed on Russia's federal wanted list.
The day before, the Moscow prosecutor's office announced that a criminal case had been opened against the journalist on charges of public calls for terrorist activity. According to the prosecutor's office, in one interview Larina 'made a public statement with calls to carry out terrorist attacks in Moscow'. The prosecutor's office did not provide further details of the case.
Russia's Justice Ministry added Larina to its register of 'foreign agents' in September 2023. The ministry claimed that the journalist spoke in support of Ukraine, distributed materials from other 'foreign agents' and worked for a foreign organization whose activities are deemed 'undesirable' in Russia. She was later charged with violating Russia's 'foreign agent' law.
Those included on the Rosfinmonitoring list face significant restrictions on financial transactions. They are barred from interacting with the media, posting information online, organizing public events and participating in elections.
