Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated the US-based Human Rights Foundation (HRF), chaired by Yulia Navalnaya, as an 'undesirable' organization, according to a statement on the agency's website.
The prosecutors allege that the foundation 'discredits' Russia's armed forces, supports other groups already labeled 'undesirable,' and assists the US administration in drafting anti-Russian sanctions. The agency also claims that HRF 'tries to track financial flows' from Russia to facilitate the freezing of assets.
The statement specifically highlights the foundation's Tyranny Tracker project, an interactive service that assesses democracy levels in countries, which has classified Russia as a 'fully authoritarian regime.'
HRF is a nonprofit founded in the US in 2005 to promote and protect human rights worldwide. Navalnaya became its chair in 2024, succeeding Garry Kasparov.
