The Investigative Committee has dropped criminal proceedings against police officers who broke the arm of Ryazan teacher Valentina Volkova during her arrest, the independent outlet 7x7 reported. The case was closed for lack of corpus delicti, the outlet said.

Volkova was detained in May 2025 near Pavlovskaya Poima in Ryazan. Two plainclothes officers mistook her for a drug courier because she was photographing flowers with her phone. One officer took her phone, threw her to the ground, and handcuffed her, after which she was led to a police vehicle. She was released after a check.

Doctors diagnosed Volkova with a fractured shoulder, a torn tendon, and bruises. She taught Russian language and literature and had previously served as head of studies at Ryazan School No. 44.

The criminal case was not opened for a long time. An investigation under the article on abuse of office with violence began only after media reports in July 2025. More than a year after the arrest, the case was closed, and the officers faced no liability for Volkova's injuries.
