Russia's Justice Ministry added politician Boris Nadezhdin to its register of 'foreign agents,' independent outlets reported. The ministry said Nadezhdin participated in creating and distributing materials of other 'foreign agents' and 'undesirable' organizations, and disseminated 'unreliable information' about Russian authorities' decisions and the electoral system. It also alleged that he called for participation in unsanctioned rallies and pickets.
Alongside Nadezhdin, the list included his project 'Headquarters of Candidates,' journalist Yekaterina Voropai, and Timofey Rogozhin, head of the company Arctic People and an expert on polar tourism.
In comments to the outlet Ostorozhno, Novosti, Nadezhdin said the designation would not affect his work. 'What is there to comment on? I will live and fight on. It is unlikely to change anything in my political biography. I will continue to run for the State Duma and collect signatures,' he said.
In 2024, Nadezhdin ran for president of Russia. He was the only candidate with an anti-war stance. A broad campaign was launched in support of his candidacy, with queues forming at signature collection points. The Central Election Commission (CEC) barred Nadezhdin from the race, citing a high percentage of invalid signatures.
In mid-June 2026, the politician submitted documents to the CEC to run for the State Duma as a self-nominated candidate and began collecting signatures. However, since May 2024, 'foreign agents' in Russia have been banned from participating in elections.
