Russia's Justice Ministry has added the Libertarian Party of Russia, the media project 'Fourth Sector,' journalist Alexander Polivanov, and writer Dmitry Petrov to the registry of 'foreign agents,' according to Mediazona, Current Time, and The Insider.
Under Russian law, the 'foreign agent' status is assigned to non-profit organizations, media outlets, and individuals who receive funding from abroad, engage in political activity, or are 'under foreign influence.' The designation imposes restrictions on those listed.
According to the outlets, in 2022 criminal cases were opened against one in five 'foreign agents' in Russia, while nearly one in seven was wanted, in pretrial detention, or under another preventive measure.
