Ukrainian air force officials said Kyiv was attacked with ballistic missiles in the early hours of August 22. The strike hit a railway enterprise in the Darnytskyi district, killing a company employee, according to Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, head of the state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia. A warehouse caught fire in the city.
In the Odesa region, the Russian attack also targeted the railway, damaging the station building at Rozdilna. In the Zaporizhzhia region, a drone strike on the village of Kushuhum killed one person and wounded four others, according to regional governor Ivan Fedorov. Ukrainian media also reported explosions in Chernihiv and Mykolaiv.
Russia's Defense Ministry said it struck "transport infrastructure facilities and a logistics center in the city of Kyiv and Kyiv region" with missiles and drones. The ministry said the strike in Kyiv hit the Darnytsia locomotive depot, and in the Kyiv region a sorting complex operated by the postal company Nova Poshta. In the ports of Chornomorsk and Yuzhne, the ministry said strikes targeted warehouses with military equipment and fuel tanks for the Ukrainian armed forces.
