Guided aerial bombs struck the Kyivskyi and Saltivskyi districts in the north-eastern part of Kharkiv, according to Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv regional military administration, and the city's mayor, Ihor Terekhov, writing in their Telegram channels.
In the Saltivskyi district, a bomb hit an apartment building directly. Syniehubov said the strike landed on the second floor, destroying the second and third floors. Terekhov said several multi-storey buildings were damaged.
Local authorities reported 22 people injured, among them at least eight children. Two of the children, boys aged eight and 12, required hospital treatment. The mayor of Kharkiv said the injured children ranged in age from three to 15, and that two were hospitalised.
In Kyiv, Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported that four people were injured in the overnight attack. Three were in the capital's Podilskyi district, where a non-residential building was damaged, a fire broke out and the roof was partially destroyed. During a repeat strike, the blast wave damaged window glass in a nearby residential building, the service said in a Telegram post.
Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said the injured in the Podilskyi district included three teenagers. Medics treated a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl at the scene, and hospitalised a 17-year-old boy. One other person was injured in the Holosiivskyi district, where a drone hit a private two-storey house.
Fires broke out in office buildings in the Pecherskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts, the Ukrainian emergency service said. The Kyiv city military administration said in a Telegram post that a petrol station was damaged in the Obolonskyi district after a drone strike.
The Russian army also attacked Ukraine the previous night. In Kyiv, a man was killed in a Russian drone raid; rescuers found his body while extinguishing a fire in a non-residential building in the Solomianskyi district that broke out after a drone strike.
A drone strike on a market in the village of Sofiivska Borshchahivka near Kyiv killed two people and injured four on the evening of 27 September, according to preliminary figures cited by Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko. In Kyiv itself, drone strikes were recorded in several districts and dozens of people were injured, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said. He said Russia used a total of 277 strike drones of various types over the day, 155 of them jet-powered.
