Russia launched a massive overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv on July 11, wounding 10 people including an 11-year-old boy, in the third such assault on the Ukrainian capital in a week, Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said. Four of the wounded were hospitalized, while the rest received medical treatment at the scene.
Strikes and fires were recorded in the Solomensky, Darnytsky and Dniprovsky districts of Kyiv. In the Solomensky district, a three-story office and warehouse building was hit, and a railway locomotive was damaged. In the Darnytsky district, a traffic light control panel caught fire after a strike on the roadway, and windows were blown out in neighboring buildings. In the Dniprovsky district, a warehouse caught fire. All fires were extinguished.
A fire covering 4,000 square meters also broke out at an infrastructure facility in the Kyiv region, which was also brought under control.
Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched six ballistic missiles, four Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles, two Kh-31 anti-radiation missiles, and 121 drones overnight. According to the Air Force, two Kh-59/69 missiles and 111 drones were intercepted. Hits were recorded at 11 facilities.
Ukrainian Pravda reported that the first explosions in Kyiv began before the air raid alert was sounded — around 03:38 local time, with sirens activated at 03:40. In the Kyiv region, the alert was declared at 03:54.
The attack was the third on Kyiv in a week. On the night of July 6, a strike killed 19 people, including a 12-year-old boy, and wounded more than 60. During a shelling on July 8, three people were killed and more than 10 wounded.
Russia's Defense Ministry said its targets in Kyiv were military industry enterprises involved in drone production.
