The Ukrainian Coordination Staff for the Treatment of Prisoners of War confirmed it had received 252 bodies. In its wording, these are bodies that the Russian side claims belong to Ukrainian servicemen.

State Duma deputy Shamsail Saraliev told RBC the exchange followed a "252 for 25" format.

The previous exchange took place on 17 September. Ukraine also received 252 bodies then, while 23 were returned to Russia.

On the same day the sides exchanged civilians: 15 people returned to Ukraine and three to Russia. The Belarusian state agency BelTA specified that these were mainly pensioners and people with limited mobility.

According to Radio Liberty, such exchanges began to be held regularly after agreements reached at talks in Istanbul last year.
