Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said nine people died in the attack, which hit seven districts of the Ukrainian capital in the early hours of August 1. More than 30 people were wounded, including four teenagers; 17 of the injured were hospitalized.

Seven of the dead were in the Darnytskyi district and two in Solomianskyi. Among the dead was a 22-year-old police officer who was on duty. The wounded included two girls and two boys aged 13 to 17; one girl was diagnosed with smoke inhalation, the others suffered shrapnel and cut wounds.

The strikes damaged 18 apartment buildings and private houses, two schools, a medical clinic, shops, an administrative building, a car wash, and vehicles. In Solomianskyi, a five-story residential building was partially destroyed and caught fire. Some districts lost power.

Two missiles hit the territory of Kyivmedspetstrans, a municipal organization that operates medical transport. Four of its buildings were partially destroyed, five ambulances burned completely, and 20 more vehicles were seriously damaged. In Shevchenkivskyi district, a fire broke out at a film studio and was contained, the State Emergency Service said.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack damaged the Lithuanian embassy and a school. He said Russian forces launched 35 missiles, including 27 ballistic ones, and 185 attack drones at Ukraine overnight. Ukrainian air defenses shot down only one ballistic missile because of a shortage of interceptors for Patriot systems. "Such a deficit of interceptors against ballistic missiles only encourages Russia to carry out such strikes," Zelensky said.

Acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged partners to urgently provide additional air defense systems and interceptor missiles, noting this was the second such massive attack in two days and that the speed of deliveries was crucial.

Russia's Defense Ministry said it struck "military industry enterprises and logistics centers" in Kyiv and the surrounding region. Three people were wounded in Kyiv region, where warehouse facilities were damaged in Bucha district.

The Kyiv city prosecutor's office opened an investigation into violations of the laws and customs of war. About 200 police officers were documenting the aftermath and taking statements from property owners.
