The drone went down about four kilometers from the Polish border, said Jacek Goryszewski, a representative of the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
Tusk said the strike hit near Yahodyn, close to Dorohusk, where a gas station was reportedly targeted. He spoke at a news conference after meeting with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker. "A very powerful explosion, our aircraft were also scrambled," Tusk said, according to the Polish Press Agency.
Polish and allied fighter jets were scrambled in response, and two airports temporarily suspended flights. During Russian attacks on Ukraine, Polish forces routinely scramble jets and security services issue warnings to residents of border areas.
The incident follows a Sept. 13 attack in which a Russian drone struck the Kyiv–Warsaw train near the Polish-Ukrainian border. The drone hit the railway line used by foreign leaders traveling to Kyiv throughout the war. Tusk subsequently convened a meeting with ministers and security service officials.
On Sunday, Russia had already struck a gas station near the Yahodyn–Dorohusk border crossing. Russia's Defense Ministry later said strikes on Ukraine's border crossings disrupt supplies of foreign military aid at key transport and logistics hubs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
