A Russian strike drone hit the building of the My — Ukraina TV channel in Kyiv on Monday while journalists were on air during the national telethon Yedyni Novyny, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said. Five people were wounded, according to preliminary data, and the number could rise, he added.
The strike hit the newsroom and staff offices, partially destroying the building. A fire broke out after the attack and was extinguished by Ukraine's State Emergency Service. Emergency crews remained at the scene.
Zelensky said Russia struck the media and journalists in the middle of the day, precisely while they were broadcasting. He called the attack "a new page of Russian degradation" and said Europe and the world must respond.
The My — Ukraina building had previously been damaged during Russian strikes on Kyiv on August 20, when the newsroom was also hit but no one was hurt.
