A Russian drone struck an ATB supermarket in the northern residential district of ZAZ in Chernihiv on the afternoon of July 26, killing two people, according to the head of the city military administration, Dmytro Bryzhynsky. Among the dead was a nine-year-old girl, authorities later clarified after initially reporting the death of a boy. Ukraine's State Emergency Service confirmed the figure.
At least 13 people were wounded — four men and nine women — Bryzhynsky said. Three were hospitalized in moderate condition, while the rest received outpatient treatment. A ten-year-old boy was among the wounded. Three people were seriously injured and are in intensive care.
Rescuers extinguished a fire that broke out after the drone hit. Earlier that morning, Bryzhynsky said, another drone struck an industrial facility in the city, where a fire was contained over an area of 1,500 square meters.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russian forces of striking a civilian target. “The attack was directed straight at people and had no military purpose,” he wrote.
Russia had not commented on Ukraine's allegations at the time of publication. The morning briefing from the Russian Defense Ministry did not mention Chernihiv.
