A Russian drone carrying explosives struck a minibus in the Korabelny district of Kherson on the morning of August 19, killing four people and wounding the driver and four female passengers, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.
Prokudin said the drone operator directed the unmanned aerial vehicle at the roof of the bus, which was carrying civilians. After the strike, the driver decided to drive the damaged vehicle to a hospital on his own to save time and deliver the wounded to medics faster.
The Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office has launched a pre-trial investigation into the incident as a war crime resulting in deaths. Prosecutors and investigators are documenting the aftermath of the attack.
Kherson, located near the front line, has seen repeated reports of Russian drone attacks on civilians. In early August, an FPV drone operator targeted an elderly vegetable seller at an outdoor market, wounding him. Ukrainian authorities at the time described such attacks as a "safari" by Russians against civilians.
Sources differ on the number of wounded: according to Deutsche Welle and Prokudin, the driver and four female passengers were injured (five in total), while TV Rain reported four wounded.
