Russian forces struck the Starokozache international road checkpoint in Ukraine's Odesa region, on the border with Moldova, using attack drones, according to Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa regional military administration. The dead and injured were near the checkpoint at the time of the strike. Sixteen others were evacuated by buses to a safe distance.
The attack damaged buildings and destroyed buses, trucks, and cars, sparking a large fire, Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine said processing of people and vehicles at this crossing has been suspended, and Moldovan authorities have been informed.
This is the second Russian attack on a border crossing with Moldova since the beginning of August. Earlier strikes targeted the Vinogradovka and Tabaki checkpoints.
The same night, Russian forces also attacked other regions of Ukraine. In Kyiv, a drone hit a 24-story residential building in the Darnytskyi district, causing a fire on the 12th floor. Five people were injured, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. In Bila Tserkva, a food industry enterprise was hit; in Dnipro, three people were wounded and an apartment block, private houses, and a building materials warehouse were damaged.
Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched Iskander-M ballistic missiles, S8000 Banderol drone-missiles, and 196 attack drones at Ukraine. Ukrainian forces reportedly shot down 165 drones. The strikes on Kyiv came for a second consecutive night.
