Seven others were wounded in the attack and remain under doctors' supervision, according to Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration, who reported the strike.
The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office said Russian forces directed an FPV drone at the bus as it traveled along the highway. A criminal case has been opened under Article 438 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, covering the commission of a war crime.
Mykola Lukashuk, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional council, published photographs from the scene showing blown-out side windows of the minibus, which was traveling from Pokrov to Dnipro, and a man with a bandaged head.
Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine's state railway operator, said a passenger train, No. 122 Kyiv–Mykolaiv, was also hit. The locomotive and train crews and passengers were evacuated in advance after a warning from the company's monitoring team. No one was injured, and bus transfers were arranged for passengers.
Drones also attacked Kyiv overnight into September 16. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said drone debris struck warehouse premises in the Sviatoshynskyi district, where a fire broke out. One person was hospitalized.
According to Ukraine's Air Force command, Russian forces attacked the country with a total of 80 Shahed-type strike drones overnight. Air defense forces shot down or suppressed 63 of them.
It is not the first Russian drone strike on passenger trains. On September 8, trains from Kyiv to Sumy and from Dnipro to Zaporizhzhia, as well as a suburban commuter train in the Sumy region, came under attack, and a female conductor was killed. On September 9, a Shahed struck a passenger train in the Kharkiv region, injuring seven people. On September 13, drones attacked a railway line in western Ukraine and destroyed the locomotive of the Kyiv–Warsaw train.
Sources differ on details of the attack on the Kyiv–Mykolaiv train: The Insider says the strike hit the train in the Mykolaiv region, while Ukrzaliznytsia and other outlets identify the target as train No. 122 Kyiv–Mykolaiv without specifying the location. There are no discrepancies between sources regarding the vehicle attack near Nikopol.
