Russian forces struck Kyiv with missiles overnight on July 16, killing two people and wounding six, including a 16-year-old teenager, according to Ukrainian officials. Three of the wounded were hospitalized, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. The attack targeted the Darnytskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported.
In the Darnytskyi district, a non-residential building, parked trucks, and a warehouse caught fire. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a fire broke out in a one-story warehouse. Both fires were extinguished, the emergency service said.
Ukraine's Air Force said the attack involved ballistic missiles. According to Radio Liberty, Russian forces launched eight Iskander-M/S-400 missiles, four Kh-22/32 cruise missiles, one Kh-31P anti-radiation missile, and five loitering munitions across Ukraine.
Russia's Defense Ministry claimed it struck "high-precision weapons" at military-industrial complex targets in Kyiv. The ministry said it hit a logistics company facility where drones are allegedly assembled and stored, as well as a drone storage warehouse at the Kyiv-1 plant. It also claimed attacks on infrastructure in the ports of Odesa and Pivdennyi, a dry cargo ship heading to the Chornomorsk port, and a Ukrainian special forces boat near Snake Island. These claims could not be independently verified, and Ukrainian officials have not commented on them.
In Odesa, the attack damaged a gas station area, shattered windows, and damaged the roof of an educational institution, said Odesa regional military administration head Oleh Kiper. No casualties were reported there.
