Russian forces launched a massive combined strike on Ukraine overnight, firing 74 missiles and 284 drones from the evening of July 29, according to Ukraine's Air Force. Ukrainian military officials said most targets were intercepted, but 11 missiles of various types and 17 drones hit their targets.
In the village of Radushne, near Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk region, a missile struck a private home, killing six people — three adults and three children, all members of one large family, according to Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the Kryvyi Rih military administration. Two houses were completely destroyed and five more damaged; eight people were injured. Rescuers said five more people may be trapped under the rubble.
In Lviv, Mayor Andriy Sadovyi described the attack as "one of the most massive strikes on the city," with more than 20 missiles fired. Direct hits were recorded on residential buildings on Paton and Vyhovsky streets, damaging over 20 homes, a school, and two kindergartens. According to Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv regional military administration, 30 people were injured, 15 hospitalized, including children. Rescue operations continued, with people possibly still under debris.
In Kyiv, one person was killed and two wounded. In the Obolon district, a market caught fire; in Sviatoshyn, a garage cooperative and a five-story non-residential building were damaged. In the Kyiv region, five people, including one child, were injured, and a private house was partially destroyed.
In the Poltava region, one person died after Russian drones struck warehouse facilities of an enterprise and a Nova Poshta terminal; casualties at the post office were avoided, the regional administration head said.
In the Kherson region, Russian forces deliberately attacked a fire truck belonging to rescuers, damaging the cabin, according to the State Emergency Service (SES).
Russia's Defense Ministry said the strikes used "long-range high-precision weapons" and drones against military airfields, defense industry enterprises, military telecommunications and logistics centers. The ministry also claimed to have hit three dry cargo ships at the Pivdennyi port and near Odesa, alleging they deliver weapons to Ukraine.
On the eve of the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of a high probability of a massive strike and called on partners, primarily the United States, to urgently provide interceptor missiles for Patriot systems, saying Ukraine lacks means to intercept ballistic missiles such as Iskander-M, Kinzhal, and Zircon.
