Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said 17 people were killed and 44 wounded in the attack, which he said involved 24 ballistic missiles and 115 drones targeting warehouse facilities of civilian enterprises. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces launched 28 missiles and 115 attack drones at Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast overnight into August 5.
Russia's Defense Ministry said the strikes targeted logistics centers used for "storage and distribution of components for unmanned aerial vehicles" and "material and technical means in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine."
The attack destroyed a logistics center of the Epicentr retail chain on Vyskozna Street in Kyiv, the company said. In Brovary, the largest automated warehouse of electronics retailer Rozetka was destroyed. Company co-owner Iryna Chechetkina said the center, which processed more than 100,000 orders a day, cannot be restored. A Nova Poshta sorting center in Kyiv was also destroyed; the company said three people died in that strike — two drivers from a partner transport company and one employee of a contractor.
Eight people died at the Kvitneva railway station in the Brovary district, where they were waiting for a delayed train and were on the platform at the moment of the attack, said Vitaliy Bigun, head of the Brovary district administration. Ukrzaliznytsia, the national railway operator, confirmed deaths on the platform near the attacked logistics centers in the Brovary district without specifying a number. Train service was temporarily suspended.
According to the Kyiv Oblast administration, 14 people died in the region and 27 were wounded. The highest death toll, nine, was in the Brovary district. In Kyiv itself, one person was killed and 26 wounded, according to the latest official figures. Damage was recorded in the Holosiivskyi, Obolonskyi, Desnianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts.
The Ukrainian Air Force said air defense shot down 98 drones but no missiles. Missiles and 17 attack drones hit 26 locations, with debris falling at six more. Russian forces used four Zircon/Onyx anti-ship missiles launched from Kursk and Rostov oblasts, 24 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles from Bryansk and Kursk oblasts, and drones from three directions, including occupied Donetsk and the village of Hvardiiske in annexed Crimea.
Figures differ between sources: Zelensky reported 17 dead and 44 wounded, while the Kyiv Oblast administration said 14 died in the region and one in Kyiv. Russia's Defense Ministry said the strikes hit facilities used in the interests of the Ukrainian armed forces, while Ukrainian authorities and companies reported the destruction of civilian logistics centers.
