Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa regional military administration, said Russian forces attacked port infrastructure in the region, damaging a civilian vessel flying the flag of Togo. Four people were injured, three of them hospitalized, with one in serious condition.
Russia's Defense Ministry claimed its strike on the port of Odesa hit a Tarantul-class patrol boat and fuel reservoirs, while in the port of Izmail it targeted a berthing terminal and warehouses for unmanned boats. The Russian military said these vessels were carrying cargo for the Ukrainian armed forces.
Overnight into August 17, the Russian army launched 128 drones at Ukraine, according to Ukrainian air force command. Ukrainian forces shot down or suppressed 106 of them. Drone impacts were recorded at 14 locations, with debris from downed drones falling at two more sites. There was no independent confirmation of these figures.
In the Zaporizhzhia region, two people were killed and three wounded in the strikes, according to regional administration head Ivan Fedorov. In Sumy, a man and a woman died and another woman was injured. Five people were hurt in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and one man was wounded in the Dnipro district of Kherson.
Two industrial enterprises caught fire in the Kremenchuk district of the Poltava region, and Russian forces also struck an enterprise in the Myrhorod district. Ports in the Odesa region have been regular targets of Russian strikes in recent weeks.
