Yulia Kirillova, a 30-year-old relative of Russian Aerospace Forces commander Alexander Chaiko, died on August 4 — three days after an explosion at the Balzi Rossi restaurant in Moscow — according to state registry records reviewed by the independent outlet Verstka.
Kirillova was hospitalized with multiple wounds to her chest and abdomen. On the day of the blast, Telegram channels linked to security services published lists of the injured that included "Yulia V., 30 years old." Journalists determined that Kirillova turned 30 in July, and that "V" is the first letter of her patronymic.
Kirillova was the wife of Daniil Kirillov, Chaiko's nephew through his wife. Along with her, journalists identified six relatives and acquaintances of the aerospace commander who were in the restaurant during the explosion.
Earlier, The Insider, reviewing state registries, established that Major General Valery Plokhotnyuk died on August 1 — the day of the blast. His taxpayer identification number was declared invalid the same day. The Telegram channel "VChK-OGPU" reported that Plokhotnyuk was killed in the explosion. The Insider also cited data from the Unified State Register of Individual Entrepreneurs showing that the business activity of Chaiko's son-in-law Daniil Peredry was terminated on August 1 "due to death."
The explosion at the Balzi Rossi restaurant on the ground floor of a high-rise on Kudrinskaya Square occurred on the evening of August 1. A private party was being held at the venue, reportedly — though not officially confirmed — to mark Chaiko's 55th birthday. At least five people were killed and 19 injured.
Chaiko was appointed commander of the Aerospace Forces in May. At the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he commanded the Eastern Military District and the "Vostok" troop grouping, which advanced on Kyiv from Belarus. In March, the European Union added Chaiko to its sanctions list as one of those responsible for the mass killings of civilians in Bucha.
