In the early hours of July 7, Ukrainian forces launched a large-scale missile strike on the city of Belgorod and the surrounding district, hitting gas and energy infrastructure, according to acting regional governor Alexander Shuvaev. One person was killed and three were injured in the village of Belovskoye.
The attack targeted the Belgorod Linear Production Department of Main Gas Pipelines (LPUMG), a branch of Gazprom Transgaz Moscow, according to the outlets Pepel, Astra, and Ukrainian monitoring channels. The facility supplies gas to Belgorod and nine districts of the region. A fire broke out on the LPUMG premises. City electrical substations were also damaged, leading to water and power outages.
Some Belgorod residents reported disruptions to their gas supply, Pepel wrote. The regional operational headquarters dismissed this as a fake, stating that there were no restrictions on gas service for consumers. NASA's FIRMS satellite service detected two fire hotspots in Belgorod, in the industrial zone near Chicherina and Michurina streets, where the LPUMG is located.
The regional water utility reported power outages at water supply facilities in Tomarovka, Yakovlevsky District, and the Yugo-Zapadny-2.5 microdistrict. Electricity was restored by morning. Residents commenting under Shuvaev's VKontakte posts demanded the restoration of mobile phone and internet service to receive alerts about shelling and contact relatives.
Sources differ: Pepel and independent outlets report consumer gas disruptions after the attack; the regional operational headquarters denies this. The casualty figures match: the governor reported one dead and three wounded in Belovskoye.
