Volodin has led the State Duma since 2016. If his mandate is extended, he would become the first speaker of the lower chamber to hold the post for three consecutive terms, according to RBC.
The outlet reported that personnel arrangements could still change up until the parliament's first session. RBC's sources said Volodin took part in discussions on the future composition of the State Duma and the distribution of leadership posts.
In the recent elections, Volodin ran for United Russia in the Saratov Region and won single-mandate district No. 164 with 82.84% of the vote.
Before his appointment as speaker, he served as first deputy head of the presidential administration, where he was responsible for domestic policy. Formally, the speaker is elected by the deputies themselves.
