The losses came region by region, often within a single day. The Supreme Court of Chuvashia canceled the registration of both local candidates — regional branch chairman Vladislav Arkadyev and bureau member Viktor Stenshin. The suits were filed by Konstantin Konovalov, a candidate from the Greens, and Viktor Makarov, a candidate from Communists of Russia.
In Chelyabinsk, a court removed a female State Duma candidate, after Andrei Talevin and Yaroslav Shcherbakov had already lost their registration there. In Yekaterinburg and Miass, Yabloko members also lost the chance to take part in the elections.
The plaintiffs' claims in Chuvashia rested on several arguments. They linked party transfers to the candidates' campaign funds to "foreign financing" — after the federal list was removed. Publications about the candidates on social media were, according to the plaintiffs, paid campaigning: the suits cited the Telegram channel "Angry Chuvashia," linked to Semyon Kochkin, who has been designated a "foreign agent," and the use of the paid Colville font in printed campaign material without a license. The suit against Arkadyev added publications featuring Yabloko deputy chairman Boris Vishnevsky without the "foreign agent" label and, in the plaintiff's view, advantages of official position in work with the Zvyozdochka territorial public self-government.
On September 7, police in the Sverdlovsk region carried out mass detentions of Yabloko candidates — five people. They were accused of displaying "extremist" symbols, mainly over old social media posts with photographs of Alexei Navalny or images associated with him. The administrative protocols automatically ended their campaigns. A Yekaterinburg court fined one of the candidates 2,000 rubles.
Against that backdrop, the head of the party's regional branch, Maxim Petlin, temporarily left Russia, fearing possible prosecution.
Yabloko's regional lists have been removed over the past month in four of six regions — Pskov, Sverdlovsk and Kaliningrad regions and in Karelia. In the regional elections the party remains only in Novgorod and Tomsk regions, where a suit to remove its list has not yet been considered. The party has recommended that supporters refuse remote voting and come to polling stations on September 20 to spoil their ballots on the party-list vote.
