The press service of the Yabloko party reported that its representatives in the Kaliningrad region received messages containing threats against candidates for the regional legislative assembly, Roman Morozov and Dmitry Mamaev.
The unknown sender demanded the withdrawal of both candidates, using the phrase “Why sacrifice lives in vain?” The party noted that the letters “R” and “D” in the message refer to Morozov and Mamaev, the only remaining single-mandate candidates from the party in these elections. Morozov is also running for the State Duma.
Yabloko chairman Nikolai Rybakov has appealed to Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev to launch an investigation, identify the author of the messages, and ensure the safety of the candidates.
Earlier, a court removed Yabloko’s party list from the elections in the Kaliningrad region, but both candidates retained the right to run in single-mandate districts.
In early August, Kirill Rumyantsev, deputy head of the party’s Saratov branch, faced death threats and demands to withdraw from the election. Rybakov also asked the interior minister to personally oversee the investigation into that case. Additionally, during the current election campaign, four other Yabloko single-mandate candidates withdrew due to pressure.
