According to The Moscow Times, the officials in question are U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in late August called Witkoff and Kushner "welcome guests in Moscow" and "welcome interlocutors" for Russian President Vladimir Putin. He added that there was no precise information about a visit and that no specific dates had been reserved.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said Washington will soon try to help resume direct peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Earlier, Putin told the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum that there are "chances" for settling the war, but "Russia and Ukraine must first agree between themselves," with other countries only able to facilitate the process.
