The meeting is set for 13:15 New York time, or 20:15 in Moscow and Kyiv, per Trump's schedule.
The topics have not been officially disclosed. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview with Fox News that Trump will discuss an energy truce between Moscow and Kyiv with Zelensky.
Citing a Reuters source, Trump and Zelensky have already discussed a possible halt to strikes on energy infrastructure. Kyiv does not want to act alone, believing that damaging Russia's oil industry is the best way to force Moscow to the negotiating table.
The Guardian suggested a day earlier that Trump would push for an energy truce at the meeting, as global diesel prices have risen sharply because of the wars with Iran and with Ukraine.
A Le Monde source claims the talks will also cover strengthening Kyiv's air defenses and ways for Ukraine to purchase missiles for US-made Patriot air defense systems.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also intends to arrive in New York. On Wednesday he plans to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and more than 30 bilateral meetings are being prepared in total, TASS reports.
