On 20 March 2025, he was detained after a search and taken into custody the next day on charges of participation in the activities of an extremist organisation due to his involvement in the activities of the Jehovah's Witnesses community. Members of this community are being prosecuted under extremism laws solely because of their religious activities — holding meetings and worship services, and recruiting new followers.
