The case was initiated following research on Leo Tolstoy's anti-war views published by Altukhov. In the summer of 2022, Altukhov was fined 30,000 roubles under the administrative article on discrediting the army (Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code) because of certain posts on his personal page on the VKontakte social network.

Full summary
In October 2023, it was reported that a case was opened against Roman Altukhov, a resident of Yasnaya Polyana, for discrediting the Armed Forces. The Telegram channel "Tula. ExtremiZm" posted a video showing Altukhov in handcuffs, apologising for "repeatedly publishing materials on the Internet defaming and discrediting the Russian Armed Forces." He signed a covenant not to leave the country. On 6 May 2024, Altukhov was sentenced to a fine of 100,000 roubles.
