Case summary
A resident of Izhevsk, surgeon, mother of five children. The reason for the initiation of a criminal case against her was the inscription that Avdeeva put on the building of the Opera and Ballet Theatre in the summer of 2022. However, the case was initiated only a year later. Avdeeva believes that she attracted the attention of law enforcers because of the anti-war picket: she stood with a poster ‘Russia creates ZLO [EVIL (rus. “зло”) with the Z stylised to match its use in the Russian state media]’ in front of the same theatre. That time, Avdeeva stood on the square for no more than five minutes, then she was detained and released from the police department with an explanation. A recognisance not to leave was taken. On 4 September 2023, Avdeeva was fined 30,000 ($325,20) rubles under the same administrative article because of the solitary picket she attempted to hold on 1 September - then she went to the square with a wreath and a placard "RUSSIA CREATES ZLO". On 4 April 2024 Avdeeva was sentenced in a criminal case to a fine of 120 thousand rubles ($1.300).
