Case summary

Editor-in-Chief of The Insider. In 2020-2021, The Insider journalists co-authored with other investigators a series of articles about the alleged poisoners of politicians Alexei Navalny, Vladimir Kara-Murza and writer Dmitry Bykov. In July 2021, Dobrokhotov was searched in a libel case. The case was initiated following a complaint by Dutch blogger Max van der Werff, who wrote about the Malaysian Boeing shot down in Donbass. Van der Werff's claims were caused by the article, which referred to his cooperation with the GRU and the Russian Defence Ministry. Later it became known that the case was initiated because of a post about the downed Boeing in Dobrokhotov's Twitter account. The journalist is a witness in the libel case. During the investigation, law enforcers seized several mobile phones, a laptop, tablets and a foreign passport. Dobrokhotov left the country. After that, a case of illegal border crossing was opened against him. On 4 August 2022, Dobrokhotov was arrested in absentia.
