According to the investigation, "being an adherent of the ideas of radical Islam, he organised the financing of terrorist activities of the international terrorist organisation "Islamic State" (banned in the territory of the Russian Federation by decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation). Since 2012, Ezhayev had repeatedly held clandestine meetings with counter-parties from whom he received money intended for the financing of the "Islamic State". Subsequently, he transferred over 34 million roubles to persons wanted in Russia for crimes of a terrorist nature". According to information on court websites, initially there were two charges in the case, both accusing Ezhayev of organising terrorist activities (part 4 of article 205.1 of the Criminal Code). However, the trial court apparently reclassified one of the charges as organising involvement in terrorist activities (part 2 of article 205.1 of the Criminal Code with application of part 3 of article 33 of the Criminal Code).

Full summary
Ezhayev is a resident of Moscow who had worked in the book publishing business since 1989. He was was the founder and a head of several publishing houses, including the Islamic publishing house "Umma". In 2007, the book "The Personality of a Muslim", published by his publishing house, was declared extremist material. In 2008, Ezhayev became a defendant in a criminal case under the article on inciting hatred. In 2012 his book "On the Way to the Koran" was also declared extremist. On April 29, 2021, Ezhayev was taken into custody on charges of organising the financing of terrorist activities. On February 3, 2023, he was sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony.
