Case summary
Ezhayev is a resident of Moscow who had worked in the book publishing business since 1989. He was was the founder and a head of several publishing houses, including the Islamic publishing house "Umma". In 2007, the book "The Personality of a Muslim", published by his publishing house, was declared extremist material. In 2008, Ezhayev became a defendant in a criminal case under the article on inciting hatred. In 2012 his book "On the Way to the Koran" was also declared extremist. On April 29, 2021, Ezhayev was taken into custody on charges of organising the financing of terrorist activities. On February 3, 2023, he was sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony.
