Case summary

On 20 April 2016, a search and interrogation was conducted in a case of incitement to hatred against employees of the Centre for Countering Extremism and non-Russians as a social group. The reason was Garina's speech at the rally on 15 March 2015. On 1 February 2017, the case was returned to the prosecutor's office. After that, the case was twice returned for additional investigation.

On 15 January 2016, it became known that the investigation reclassified the charge to the accusation on insulting a representative of the authorities, which had expired at that time. In December 2018, the court sentenced Garina to 180 hours of compulsory labour, but released her from serving the sentence due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

Earlier, a case of incitement to national hatred and calls for extremist activity was already opened against Garina in connection with a publication in the social network "VKontakte". Garina was placed in a pre-trial detention canter and then sentenced to a year and a half suspended sentence after she pleaded guilty and agreed to a special trial.
