Case summary

Alexey Gasiuk is a resident of Vladivostok, a sailor, and earns his living from his labour. At the end of February 2021, he was unexpectedly summoned for questioning in the case of blocking roads in connection with a rally in support of Navalny on January 23, 2021.

According to the investigation, on January 23, Gasiuk and nine other people entered into a criminal conspiracy with the coordinator of Navalny's headquarters Ekaterina Ostapenko and went out on the roadway, thus blocking traffic. Because of this, according to the prosecution, the ambulance crew was unable to get to the seriously ill patient in time. Thus, Gasiuk "created a real threat to the life and health of a person", as stated in the indictment. Whether there were any consequences for the person's health is not specified. In addition, the investigation believes that Gasiuk created "a real threat of damage to property worth 50,000 roubles located in the shop "L'Etoile"".

The investigator conveniently omits the fact that people took to the roadway when it was ALREADY blocked by lorries and chains of OMON (Special Purpose Mobile Unit). "You can't block a road that is already blocked [by the law enforcement officers]," stated Polina Sidelnikova, who represented Alexey Gasiuk interests from OVD-Info.

On March 22, 2023, the court dismissed the case.
