Case summary
He is one of the authors of the investigation into the poisoning of Alexei Navalny in 2020, launched by journalists from Bellingcat, The Insider and CNN with the participation of Der Spiegel. The investigative journalists found that a group of FSB officers had been travelling on Navalny’s trail since 2017, including on the alleged days of the poisoning. In July, the FSB said Grozev was involved in a plan by Ukrainian intelligence services to hijack Russian warplanes. At that time, an arrest warrant was issued for him for the first time. On 21 April 2023, Grozev was added to the register of “foreign agents”. On the same day, he was arrested in absentia in a case of illegal border crossing. In addition, according to unconfirmed reports, a case was initiated against him for spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces.
